Boys mountain bikess are not the only ones who charge down the mountain trails. Girls are turning to the sport in ever increasing numbers as they see more professional female cyclists embracing the sport every year. Many more companies are now offering girls versions of their mountain bikes and while there are few differences between them and the ones built for boys there are a couple that are important to know along with information that can help you pick a good quality bike for your child.

There are many things to look at when you are considering a mountain bike for a girl or a boy overall, design is broken down into several categories and each should be addressed carefully to make sure that the bike you choose will be well suited to the type of use that it is intended for. The average mountain bike is built to withstand the shocks from riding full speed down the side of a mountain along with bumps and jumps that come with it.

Frames are made from lightweight aluminum that has been carefully designed to fit a girl's body with specially lowered center bars for maximum strength and ease of riding. Most of today's bikes are built with weight conservation in mind not only to make them less tiring to ride but also to make them easier to transport. When you are looking at bikes in the showroom make sure to take a close look at the wheels. Mountain bike wheels should be easy to remove especially for repairs on the trail. Many mountain bikers carry a flat repair kits and a small hand pump so that their day is not ruined by a flat tire.

The rims on mountain bikes can be made from several different materials depending on how much you have to invest in your bike. The older bikes used to have wheels that were made from chrome plated or painted steel, the problem with these types of wheels is that they are heavy and subject to corrosion from riding them in the mud and rain. Most modern rims are made from aluminum which does not corrode when it gets wet and is much lighter in weight than steel. At the top end of the scale are the wheels that are made from carbon fiber, this ultra light weight material is extremely durable and lightweight, perfect for the mountain bike environment.

All mountain bikes are built to make the ride as safe and comfortable as possible with an emphasis on performance. In the last few years one of the biggest improvements in mountain bikes has been the addition of suspension. Mountain bike riding by its very nature can be hazardous and hard on the rider, by adding suspension to the front forks these hazards can be reduced. By adding spring loaded moveable front forks to the bike the rider is more able to maintain control of the handlebars as they bounce down the trail.

Girl's mountain bikes just like those built for the boys will need to be carefully chosen and fitted to their size and height. In order to do this you should always try to shop at a reputable bicycle shop. They will have trained staff on hand who can answer all of your questions and help make sure that the bike you pick is a perfect fit for your child.
